The Brainerd Kennel Club was established in 1977

The club exists to provide an opportunity for dog owners to train their dogs to be good citizens and companions.

In 2017 the Brainerd Kennel Club celebrated our 40th Anniversary!

The Brainerd Kennel Club was established in 1977 by a group of dog loving Brainerd residents that wanted to provide training classes for the general public. Their intention was to offer classes so people could have well behaved pets.

As time went by some of the members of the club became involved in taking their dogs to obedience trials to exhibit the training, they and their dogs had perfected.

Some members also became involved in showing dogs in Conformation type shows. These shows are to judge how closely the dog being shown come to the standard for that breed.

Today, there are many different dog sports available in which people and dogs can participate. Many of our current club members participate in several sports including Obedience, Conformation, Rally, Agility, Barn Hunt, Scent Work, Therapy and Hunt Trials.

This whole time the club has continued to be a place for dog loving people to interact with and support other dog loving people.

During the life of the club, we have had many “homes,” but we have continued to offer obedience classes. We encourage and educate the public on responsible dog ownership. We also try to offer different opportunities for people to have fun with their dogs.
