Show Results

Sue Peet and Tekka competed in the Midwest Regional AKC Scent Work Championships on September 3-4 at the MAAC Training Center in Valparaiso, Indiana. They competed in the Novice Division against teams from across the country and finished as the Novice Champions. The AKC is holding several Regional Scent Work Competitions across the country and the top 4 Competitors from each will advance to the National AKC Scent Work Trial to be held sometime in 2023 at a location yet to be determined.  Teams ran searches on Saturday and Sunday, one for each element- Interior, Exterior, Containers and Buried. Teams had to place 1st in a search to Advance to the final round competition. Tekka completed the qualifying searches with three first place finishes, a second place and a fourth place, which qualified her for the final round. In the finals Tekka ran a total time of 35:61 total time for all four back-to-back searches combined. Her fastest weekend time was a 3.72 in Buried. There were some fantastic teams there competing and this win is a huge honor. It was a big trial with 96 dogs competing overall and there were an amazing 452 combined qualifying runs for the weekend.

Sue and Tekka have been working in Scent Work for a year and a half. Tekka loves the sport and is a fierce competitor.  They plan to try and attend Nationals once the location is determined. This is such a fun sport and as a team they are open to practicing with others to help spread the love of the Sport. As BKC Club President Sue is hoping to organize a Scent Work fun show or competition here in 2023 with the BKC as sponsors or co-sponsors.
